Chi Siamo

INTERSEXIONI

le disuguaglianze di genere e l’intersezione tra discriminazioni e disuguaglianze per genere, etnia e ceto/classe;

gli intrecci tra sessismo, razzismo, classismo;

la violenza di genere, il bullismo e l’omo-trasfobia;

i diritti delle persone intersex (o con variazioni nello sviluppo sessuale, dsd);

i diritti delle minoranze sessuali, delle persone omosessuali e transgender;

le nuove famiglie, l’omo e trans-genitorialità;

WHO WE ARE

INTERSEXIONI

is a group founded in the Spring of 2013 by some friends, activists, and scholars whose share interests cover analyzing the roots of ascribed characteristics-based and socio-economic discriminations; the commitment to contribute to changing and improving reality also via our theoretical effort; the contamination of theory and practice, academy and activism; the intersectional view we hold from the standpoint of our liminal zone experience.

Intersexioni has been the first non-profit organization in Italy, and currently still the only one, to join a pledge to the scientific divulgation of intersex issues with the advocacy for intersex rights, and an analysis of other areas in which violations of human rights exist on the basis of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic and somatic characteristics.

INTERSEXIONI

intersexioni was founded in 2013 and it is the first non-profit organization in Italy to join a pledge to the scientific research and divulgation of intersex issues with the advocacy for intersex right. The group is composed of intersex and endosex individuals, activists and scholars of different origins and experiences, who all share an interest in topics that are interconnected in various ways.
We work as an information point regarding intersex people’s issues, as a welcome point by offering a web and phone service for info and contact, and face to face meetings, and as a network made of people who are directly interested (intersex individuals/people with VSCs), their families and friends, researchers, activists and health workers (intersexioni Intersex Group).
We have a group composed of parents of intersex individuals, and a group of young individuals with VSCs.
We also work as an information point regarding transgender issues. Our work focuses on spreading information regarding transgender culture and on the advocacy for the rights of gender non-conforming people, by functioning as a contact network between people who are directly interested, their families, activists, advocates, researchers, and health workers. We also have a group, TransMission, composed only of trans, non binary and questioning persons.
We value giving information, communicating effectively, creating and spreading a culture that is respectful of diversity and of personal integrity, against the ideology of supremacy and oppression.
We educate people in primary and secondary schools, in universities, in post-university classes and in professional and volunteer courses.
We also organize conventions, seminars, workshops (both academic and non academic ones) and other public initiatives, like showing themed movies followed by debates, book presentations, and social events.
A part from the main focus on intersex and trans human rights, our peculiarity is our interest on the intersectionality between the many forms of injustice and discrimination, such as: gender inequality and how it intersects with other forms of inequality (such as ethnic, cultural and social ones); the intersection between sexism, racism, and classism; gender-based violence, bullying and homo-bi-intersex-transphobia; intersex invisibilty; sexual minorities and gender identity rights; new families and the rights of LGBTIQ* parents.
Moreover, we value the rights of other-than-human-animals: the analysis of the ideologies behind carnism and speciesism led us to understand the common roots of the different forms of violence and domination, from a perspective that was innovative for many of us. This perspective enables us to draw comparisons with the birth of the economy, the pastoral ideology and the patriarchy. Our aim is to analyze and break down the logic of domination and oppression, with the end goal being that of respect towards every living being and the building of a better, more equal, fair and welcoming society.
